DC1.3 and DC2 have renewed the EU Code of Conduct, making remarkable effort on WUE

LuxConnect’s has now renewed its “Participant” label of the European Code of Conduct on Data Center Energy Efficiency for its 4 Data Centers. For this second stage of certification, LuxConnect had to comply with the latest version of the European Code of Conduct tab, including KPIs such as Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE), Carbon Usage Effectiveness (CUE) and Water Usage Effectiveness (WUE).

Regarding the first KPI, LuxConnect Data Centers have a contractual PUE of 1.3. In addition, our carbon consumption is offset every year, and offsetting for 2023 is in progress. Regarding the last KPI, LuxConnect’s average WUE is 0,206 l of water to generate 1 kWh of energy for the year 2023. This is a remarkable effort considering that Data Centers generally have a WUE of around 1.8 l/kWh and that, according to the Climate Neutral Data Centre Pact, Data Denters should aim for a WUE of 0.4 l/kWh by 2040.

WUE is an important indicator in our sector, describing the efficiency of water consumption in Data Center operations. Our good results in this area are due to the fact that we have replaced traditional chillers equipped with hybrid towers producing cold water with “dry chillers” in DC1.3 and DC2. This system uses air instead of water, enabling us to reduce our water consumption considerably.

LuxConnect will now continue to report on yearly basis to the European Commission’s DG JRC on the implementation of the Data Center Code of Conduct.
