On Friday, October 3rd, 2025, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg has witnessed a historic moment: His Royal Highness the Grand Duke abdicated in favor of his son, His Royal Highness the Hereditary Grand Duke. This symbolic transition has been celebrated with official ceremonies during the day, followed by festive gatherings open to all.
Under the theme “Dem Grand-Duc seng feierlech Tournée”, the new Grand Ducal couple joined the people across Luxembourg, attending large-scale public festivities in Wiltz, Dudelange, Luxembourg City, Grevenmacher and Steinfort. The celebrations culminated in the capital, with Their Royal Highnesses entering via the Grand Duchess Charlotte Bridge (“Rout Bréck”), and closing with a spectacular drone show and concert on the Glacis, showcasing Luxembourg’s vibrant artistic scene.
Ensuring seamless broadcast of the festivities
To make this national celebration accessible to everyone, LuxConnect played a key role in providing the Dark Fiber infrastructure enabling high-quality television broadcasts — one of the largest live productions in Europe this year. Working under contract with BCE, the Host Broadcaster, our teams ensured reliable connectivity for all official venues and regional celebrations. BCE cooperated closely with RTL, producer of the national program, to ensure a smooth transmission of every ceremony and festivity.
Our contribution included:
- A close collaboration with the City of Luxembourg, with whom we have been working for many years under a long-standing agreement. This collaboration has enabled the integration of the City’s fiber network into our overall connectivity solution.
- Dudelange: In partnership with the city, we supported the setup of a new connection linking Dudelange to Luxembourg City, who provided its own infrastructure.
- Wiltz, Steinfort, and Grevenmacher: We extended dark fiber connection directly to an BCE broadcast truck located on temporary installations. For this, we relied on the expertise of our partners at LuxNetwork, who were mandated for connectivity deployment.
A proud contribution to a national milestone
As a state-owned company, LuxConnect is proud to have contributed to the success of this once-in-a-generation event. Beyond technical support, our mission is to enable Luxembourg’s digital infrastructure to shine – this time in service of an historic moment that will be remembered both within the country and beyond its borders.
Through close collaboration and technical excellence, we are honored to have helped ensure that the change of reign celebrations has been shared with as many people as possible, both on-site and through live broadcasts.
